The
First Tennessee Area Agency on Aging & Disability (FTAAA&D) is part of a nation-wide system of
agencies which were created as a result of the 1973 amendments to the Older
Americans Act of 1965. An important role of the FTAAA&D is to identify community
and social service needs and to assure that they are available to people 60
years of age or older in the communities where they live. The
First Tennessee
Development District was designated as the Area Agency on Aging & Disability by the Tennessee
Commission on Aging and Disability in 1974. The First Tennessee service area includes Carter,
Greene, Hancock, Hawkins, Johnson, Sullivan, Unicoi and Washington counties.
Through a contract with the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability for Title III Older
American Act Funds and State Funds, the FTAAA&D provides funding for many
different services. Click
